Din’s Silent Realm – The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Part 13

Gorko needs help

Link achieves spiritual enlightenment after dodging more Spirit Realm Guardians and obtains the Fire Shield Earrings, which allow us to enter the sweltering caverns of the Volcano Summit. There we meet Gorko again and are tasked with dowsing a few gates of fire which block our path to the Fire Sanctuary, home of the final sacred flame. We realize we need a larger container to dowse the next fire gate so we travel back to Lake Floria to borrow Faron’s water basin.

Given the size of the basin, we enlist Scrapper to help us carry it safely back to the Volcano Summit. Scrapper jumps ahead of us as we dive down to the surface in Eldin though and we must escort him and the basin back to the summit of the volcano, dodging and dispatching the monsters which block our path.

After safely hauling the water basin back to the Volcano Summit, Scrapper pours the water over the mouth of the Fire Sanctuary and grants us entrance to the temple within.

Last Time

Last time on Tandem Legends Link boarded the Sandship, defeated Scervo the Mechanical Maniac, freed Skipper’s crew, and destroyed Tentalus, the Abyssal Leviathan that threatened to sink the ship.

With the Sandship in pieces but still afloat, Link secured Nayru’s Sacred Flame, transforming the Goddess Longsword into the Goddess White Sword, and obtained the Triforce of Wisdom (though STILL no one is mentioning that..)

Link returned to the Isle of Songs and learned Din’s Power, now setting his sights on Eldin Volcano.

Today

Today Joe and I will be discussing Link’s journey through Din’s Silent Realm and the Volcano Summit.

General Discussion

  • Din’s Silent Realm
    • Joe: Challenging but doable? I had been really paranoid about Din’s Silent realm just based on what I’ve come across in peoples’ impressions as it being the hardest. I thought it was super stressful, but I actually thought Nayru was harder. It could be that my tactics simply adjusted between these Realms, but the Tears in Din’s felt closer together and so easier to grab in case you triggered a Guardian.
    • Fire Shield Earings
      • Wearing things to survive hot temps like in OoT with the Goron Tunic
  • Volcano Summit
    • Joe: I was excited to get to see more of the volcano, but was a bit disappointed that the space is so limited. At least right now? It feels like I can access more later, so I’ll reserve talking about it too much until later. Nice to see Gorko again, but man. The game really wanted me to dump two bottles worth of fairies or potions didnt it? No thanks. I’ll go back each time.
    • Joe: I like the consistency in design with the Fire Sanctuary’s exterior and all the little bridges and pieces of architecture that we see throughout the Eldin region and a bit inside the Earth Temple. Feels like thats where it all came from.
  • Escort Skipper
    • Joe: Yay Skipper. I was annoyed initially when I realized I had to do an escort mission with Skipper going back up the mountain (and its all your fault Skipper), but at least the way I went, it was pretty chill and gave me lots of practice with my new fully upgraded bow.

Music:

  • Harp “Din’s Power”
    • Joe: In episode one of this podcast we mentioned it’s unlikely we’d find a song in Zelda that we didn’t like. I think we found it 🙁 This complaint doesn’t come out of nothing Bolero of Fire is an Ocarina of Time piece that incorporates both Sheik’s Harp and Link’s Ocarina without insulting either.
  • Din’s Silent Realm
    • Joe: I like this one the most out of all the Silent Realm songs I think. It has a ticking clock sort of sound that I really enjoy. The piano piece feels like it’s from the Moon Soundtrack written by Clint Mansell, which has the characteristic of a repeated mid-note with a broken chord progression accompanying. That repeated note sounds like a bell chiming, which is the effect it has here in this song.
  • Volcano Summit
    • Joe: I like the song, but not necessarily its use. It reminds me of the electronic sort of ambient music in Portal. Lots of stuff going on, i really love one part where the weird kazoo sounding horn is coming in from the background
